The madness that is end of term continues as we’re now in the last 2 weeks before the summer holidays. I’ve been thinking about how I will keep the kids entertained and support their learning through the six week break. This review has been written in collaboration with Education Quizzes.
Summer Holidays
I’m one of those parents that loves the freedom of the summer holidays with my children. We all get time off together and love our relaxed no rush lifestyle. But I’m also very conscious that with a 6 week break they might undo all their hard work put in throughout the year. They both work very hard at school and I support them as much as I can. But there have been many times where I’ve tried to help them with their homework only to be completely confused by it. I’m certainly not uneducated, but the methods used in schools these days are completely lost on me.
Learning with Education Quizzes
I took up a free trial of the Education Quizzes subscription, and got the children to both have a go. The eldest absolutely loved the fact that it was on a computer (he’s a total computer geek). He’s in year 4 going into year 5 so we went straight to the key stage 2 section. He tested his geography knowledge on a few quizzes and found it really fun, the quizzes were challenging but not so much that it was stressful.
My daughter is in year 3 heading up to year 4 so she also went to the key stage 2 section, she chose to practice her times tables. I asked her what she thought and her response was…
‘Its a great way for me to continue my learning while I’m at home, and it’s really fun!’
I would have to agree that this is a great way to support learning while at home and even taught me a few things.
What subjects are included?
The KS2 section covers 14 subjects:
- Art and design
- Citizenship
- D&T
- English
- Geography
- History
- ICT
- Maths
- Music
- PE
- PSHE
- RE
- Science
- Times tables
The website is easy to navigate and well set out.
What are the costs?
The cost of this subscription is a monthly £9.95 and can be cancelled at any time. If you have more than one child it works out cheaper per child as there is no limit on the amount of users. Although Education Quizzes are very conscious of the fact that not every parent can afford this. Therefore they are eager to introduce this idea to schools at a greatly reduced rate to pay on behalf of the students. If this sounds like it could benefit your children or school please share with them.
So what did we think?
We all really enjoyed the quizzes and I would definitely recommend it to other parents! I think if this idea was brought to schools it would definitely benefit a lot more children.
