If you’re looking to make your house more homely it needn’t be expensive. Here are a few ways to make your house feel homely on a budget.
Ways to make your house feel homely on a budget
Making your house feel more homely can drastically improve your mood. Just imagine sitting in your own little piece of tranquil heaven. But if you’ve just moved into a new place you may not have the funds to go out house shopping right away. Or if you are currently renting you may not feel like you’re able to change much about your house. Here are some budget ways to make your house feel homely even if you’re renting.
Use rugs on hard flooring
I’m a huge fan of laminate flooring as I find that especially with children and pets it’s a lot easier to look after and clean. When one of the children spills something it’s much easier to wipe up compared to carpeted areas. The only thing is that it can feel very cold on the bottom of your feet especially at night or first thing in the morning.
This is why we have various fluffy rugs scattered around our house. I love the look and feel of the really big fluffy rugs but you can pick up less expensive versions at most high street places.
Get some cushions and blankets
Cushions and blankets are another great inexpensive way to make your house feel more cosy. You could scatter cushions over your sofas, chairs and beds. Blankets could be folded at the end of beds and draped across the back of the sofa ready to be pulled over when needed.
You might be pleasantly surprised with what the budget shops can offer you in the way of cushions and blankets. I’ve picked up some lovely fluffy blankets for £5 from Primark before or there’s a great selection in Wilko.
Hang some family pictures
If you’re in rented accommodation then you may not be able to change the colour of your walls but that doesn’t mean they have to look boring. Pictures are a great way to add something more interesting to your walls and these days you don’t even need to drill any holes to put the pictures up.
Why not start a gallery wall like this one? You could get various shapes and sizes of frames and make a kind of montage of family pictures on the wall. Sticky hanging strips can be picked up for less than £10 at places like Wilko and sticky hanging strips.
Hopefully this has given you some ideas on how you can make your house feel more homely a budget. I would love to hear your ideas in the comments below.
