But, one thing many of us fail to consider is how much the time of year we choose can save money. For the most part, home decoration of this type isn’t a seasonal issue. Or, is it? When you take the time to step back, it becomes apparent that there are some benefits to being picky about when you get started. In fact, choosing to work at the ideal time of year can save an enormous amount of money. Spring or fall are usually the best options. Here are the two main reasons why.
Between Seasons Means Sales
Sales are the most obvious money-saving timed benefit. During the between seasons, shops clear old stock to make way for new. Hence, sales galore ensue. And, if you time your project right, you’re sure to benefit.
So, it’s well worth holding back on that living room renovation until you can find a chesterfield sofa sale to make your dreams come true. Save that kitchen do-over a few months, and buy your new fridge half-price.
Obviously, not all items are going to be reduced. Some will keep their value all year round. But, by doing your research, you’ll get a good idea of where you stand to save. It may seem like a long project, but it might be worth studying stock over the course of a year. If money saving is your priority, you won’t mind taking this time. Then, when you do get round to decorating, you can do it for much cheaper.
Even if you don’t want to decorate during a sale period, you could make the most of the opportunity by thinking ahead. If you plan to decorate in a few months, stock up on supplies like paint brushes while they’re cheap!
A time of year to suit your earnings
And, it’s not only the habits of shops that are worth taking into consideration. It’s also worth thinking about the state of your earnings during different periods. Use Christmas as a marker. This is usually the most expensive time, so it might be worth avoiding decorating from November to February. Summer is also pricey due to vacation costs, so it’s also worth discarding June to September. And, depending on family birthdays and so on, there may be other months you’d rather take off the list.
When you know times which wouldn’t work, you can focus on those which would. Out of the months you have left, consider bonuses or extra income which could affect you financially. If, for example, you usually receive a bonus in March, it’d make sense to do work then. Otherwise, you’re free to take your pick from the time left.
